Start strong. Book an early time slot (remember: fixed entry time for the Nasrid Palaces) and spend about 3 hours on the Palaces, the Generalife and the Alcazaba. Go up light: large bags are not allowed inside.

Head down to the centre and wander the Cathedral and Royal Chapel, the Alcaicería (the old silk market) and Plaza Bib-Rambla. The perfect moment for a beer with a free tapa, a very Granada tradition.

Afternoon: the Albaicín and the San Nicolás viewpoint

Walk up the Carrera del Darro, one of the prettiest streets in Spain, into the Albaicín. Finish at the San Nicolás viewpoint, with the best view of the Alhambra and the Sierra Nevada behind it.

Sunset: Sacromonte or tapas

If you have energy left, head to the Sacromonte (caves and flamenco) or return to the centre for an evening of tapas. With your luggage safely stored, there is no rush to collect it: many lockers are open 24/7.
