How to buy tickets

Tickets are sold on the official Alhambra (Patronato) website. There are several types (general daytime, gardens, night visit), but the most popular is the general ticket, which includes the Nasrid Palaces, the Generalife and the Alcazaba.

  • Book in advance. In high season it sells out days or weeks ahead.
  • Timed entry to the Nasrid Palaces. Your ticket gives a fixed time slot for the palaces; miss it and you cannot enter.
  • Bring your ID. It may be checked on entry.

Opening hours and the best time to visit

The Alhambra opens year-round, with daytime hours and some night visits. To avoid heat and crowds, aim for first thing in the morning or late afternoon. Allow at least 3 hours to see it properly.

What you can bring (and what you cannot): the luggage rule

Here is the detail that surprises most: large bags and backpacks are not allowed in the Nasrid Palaces (the limit is around 40 x 40 cm). There are free lockers near the entrance, but they are limited and only for ticket holders.

So if you arrive in Granada with your suitcase or you are short on time, the easiest thing is to leave your luggage in the centre first and head up light. You skip queues and surprises at the gate.

From the centre (Km 0) you can walk up the Cuesta de Gomérez (about 20 minutes uphill) or take the C30/C32 minibuses from Plaza Isabel la Católica. If you drive, note that access is restricted: use the Alhambra car park.

Practical tips

  • Comfortable shoes: there are slopes, steps and cobblestones.
  • Water and a hat in summer; little shade in the Alcazaba.
  • Arrive 30-45 minutes before your Nasrid Palaces slot.
  • Leave your suitcase at a central locker to move around without weight.
